SIMPLE PLEASURE Owned by an artist, this home evokes the Japanese aesthetic principle of wabi-sabi, celebrating elements of the imperfect as an essential part of any well-made and inviting design. Following a renovation this small interior courtyard-cum-backyard is now almost entirely devoted to the pool, which is so delightfully secluded, says its owner, that it is “perfect for daytime skinny dipping”. Tip Stripped back to its original, rustic clay bricks, the rear wall provides a beautifully textured backdrop to the sparkling water, while the stone slabs used around the edge of the pool are a practical choice that also adds another subtle element of natural texture to the space. The rustic, weathered wooden bench and ladder are the ideal accessory.
