Anate cites the great houses of Yves Saint Laurent and Schiaparelli as some of his main fashion inspirations
Anate dedicates much of his work to the powerful women in his life, including his mother, sister, and cousins, as well as female cultural icons who embody fearlessness, confidence, and passion– traits that all come together to form the idea of the Vicnate woman. Her style and composure are enduring , and transcend beyond the confines of the present day. She “is ever dynamic, yet clear about her style choices and approach to life.” Anate feels most driven to create art and clothing that the Vicnate woman will not only wear now but pass on for generations. Anate cites the great houses of Yves Saint Laurent and Schiaparelli as some of his main fashion inspirations, both of which are iconic for their lasting designs and cultural impact. However, his sources of inspiration extend beyond fashion.. Anate actively draws motifs from film, music, and art from all over the world. Inspired by the main female character Alice (depicted by Nicole Kidman) in Stanley Kubrick’s 1999 psychological mystery film Eyes Wide Shut, the Vicnate No. 4 collection and subsequent photoshoot was “a deep dive into an exploration of the senses through clothes, minimalist in the expression of colour, rather with the emphasis on texture, cuts and finishing.” The rawness and general mood of the photoshoot, the sharp shoulder pads, sheer dresses, and black lace aimed to capture and recreate Nicole Kidman’s (Alice’s) mystery and seductive power. Recently, Anate’s creative energy has been powered by the uplifting tempo and romanticism in Pharrell Williams’s 2014 album “Girl.” The album is a celebration of female beauty from both a platonic and romantic standpoint, exemplified in this lyric from Gust of Wind: “The view up here, I see all the stars / There go Venus, and there go Mars / Somethin' you been through / You're from above…” (“Gust of Wind” by Pharrell Williams). Anate says it’s a perfect inspiration, because uplifting and celebrating women is central to his work.
