Since its conception in 2019, Vicnate has brought forth seven novel collections of womenswear to the global fashion scene. Led by Creative Director Victor Anate and based in Lagos, Nigeria, Vicnate is quickly gaining high-level recognition—and Anate himself, a global reputation—as a leading African designer and visionary. In 2023 at only twenty years old, Anate was hand- selected by supermodel and fashion icon Naomi Campbell to collaborate on an exclusive, seventy-piece collection for PrettyLittleThing: a British powerhouse brand that brought in over $200 million in revenue that same year. Together with New York–based fellow designer Edvin Thompson of Theophilio, the trio presented their collaborative designs in a runway show that, with Campbell’s cosign, further catapulted Anate into the spotlight. Drawing from classic tailoring and traditional silhouettes, Vicnate brings new structure, historical context, and drama to the world of women’s high fashion. Looks from the newest collection include sharp, collarbone-grazing necklines, parachuting capes, and hooded A-line dresses. Meticulously draped swatches and near-transparent fabrics both conceal and tastefully reveal the body in ways that feel familiar yet refreshingly bold. For Anate, striking a balance between modernism and timelessness is a key motivator for his designs. With the most recent collection, Anate and his team were “very intentional about providing a wardrobe with an Ode to lightness and a certain kind of soigné for the Vicnate woman” (Vicnate.com).
