WAKIMONKEYS! BY MICHAEL DAKS As part of the group show at Institut Suedois de Paris from May 14th to August 14th, French artist Côme Touvay showcases five pieces of a series called WAKIMONKEYS.
W akimonkeys are a series of large hand-woven mural textile figures that refer to ancient Andean fabric and a type of weaving construction originating from the oriental Mediterranean. The color here is like a repetitive pattern, and the pattern itself is a totemic figure: a maze for the eyes.
