Turning Tragedy into Triumph with Bossy and Blissful

The prolific author Deepak Chopra once said, “A single event can shape our lives.” For Lawless, this event was the death of her husband. His passing in 2021 was a wake-up call that gave her the clarity and confidence to be true to herself and start living her best, authentic life. So, in 2023, Lawless stepped away from her role as head of DEI at Meta to start her own company, Bossy and Blissful LLC. Having experienced life at every level in the corporate world, Lawless knew firsthand the challenges Black women, especially Black women leaders, faced in the competitive corporate world. This led her to create a safe community for these women leaders, an avenue for them to reconnect with themselves and rediscover their priorities while connecting and networking with like minds. While Bossy and Blissful is still in its infancy, Lawless has already begun to see its impact on Black women leaders. From the success of events organized with community members across various industries, Lawless realized how important it is for Black women leaders to have a safe space to connect, have fun, and learn how to balance their success with self-fulfillment. Through Bossy and Blissful, Lawless helps corporate executives learn that climbing the corporate ladder does not always have to be a tradeoff between success and self- fulfillment. As a former executive, she understands the danger of having a single-minded approach to corporate success. She helps leaders refocus their vision, remember their values, and ultimately live the best possible version of their lives. For Lawless, the future of Bossy

“I was in corporate for nineteen years… it was a grind! I think that’s the best way to describe it. I had to work twice as hard… a lot of hours, and take assignments that other people wouldn’t necessarily have to take or volunteer for.”
